Hotkeys
Control Ottex from anywhere with global keyboard shortcuts.
All hotkeys are fully customizable in Settings → Hotkeys.
Recording
| Action | Description |
|---|---|
| Toggle Recording | Start or stop voice recording. Press once to start, again to stop and transcribe. |
| Push-to-Talk | Hold to record, release to transcribe. Like a walkie-talkie — great for quick messages. |
| Cancel Recording | Stop recording without transcribing. Useful if you misspoke or changed your mind. |
Tip: Use Push-to-Talk for quick messages and Toggle Recording for longer dictation sessions.
AI & Commands

| Command Mode | Transform selected text with voice commands. Select text → press hotkey → speak command (e.g., "translate to French"). Learn more → |
| Show Omnibar | Open the quick launcher. Search for AI shortcuts, snippets, and apps. |

Setting Hotkeys
To configure your hotkeys:
- Open Settings → Hotkeys
- Click on any hotkey field
- Press your desired key combination
- The hotkey is saved automatically
Tip: Choose hotkeys that don't conflict with your most-used apps. Modifier combinations like ⌥ + ⇧ + letter work well.
Workflow Examples
Quick Voice Message
Hold Push-to-Talk → speak your message → release. Text appears instantly.
Fix Grammar in Selection
Select text → Command Mode → say "fix grammar" → text is corrected.
Use AI Shortcut
Show Omnibar → type shortcut name → Enter → paste result.
Long Dictation Session
Toggle Recording → speak freely → Toggle Recording again to stop.
