Ottex Documentation
Learn how to use voice commands and smart formatting
Smart Formatting
Ottex automatically formats your speech into clean, structured text. Enable or disable these features in Settings → Voice to Text.
Lists
When you use numbered words (one, two, three) or ordinal words (first, second, third) to enumerate items, Ottex automatically formats them as a numbered list.
So I want to buy groceries for today first tomatoes second cucumbers, some grapes, some cherries, and for the meal it shall be turkey and lentils.
Groceries for today: 1. tomatoes 2. cucumbers 3. grapes 4. cherries 5. turkey 6. lentils
Spoken Punctuation
Say punctuation words out loud to insert symbols precisely where you want them.
,.?!:;—"()#-I can't wait to see you exclamation point Let's meet at seven period
I can't wait to see you! Let's meet at 7.
New Lines & Paragraphs
Use trigger words to create line breaks and separate ideas cleanly.
- "new line" — inserts a single line break
- "new paragraph" — inserts two line breaks (new paragraph)
When is reading club new line should be tomorrow
When is reading club? Should be tomorrow.
Backtrack Corrections
Made a mistake? Say "actually" or "scratch that" followed by the correction, and Ottex will fix it for you.
Let's meet at 2 actually 3
Let's meet at 3
I'll bring cookies scratch that brownies
I'll bring brownies
Alternate Corrections
When you naturally restate a phrase, Ottex recognizes it and uses your final version.
I wanted to buy a record as a gift… as a present
I wanted to buy a record as a present.
Meta Commands
Meta commands let you invoke AI transformations directly within your dictation. Say "meta command" (or just "meta"), give an instruction, and end with "end meta command" (or "end meta").
Tip: Meta commands are perfect for looking up quotes, translating phrases, inserting dates, or any quick AI task without leaving your flow.
Common Use Cases
- Insert quotes or facts
- Translate text inline
- Format text (bullet lists, tables)
- Date/time conversions
- Quick calculations

As Churchill once said, "Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts," and that's what I believe in.

- Technical terminology
- Industry-specific jargon
- Abbreviations and acronyms
How to add: Go to Settings → Custom Dictionary and add your terms, one per line.

Voice Snippets
Voice snippets let you insert predefined text blocks by speaking a trigger phrase. Perfect for:
- Email signatures
- Common responses
- Contact information

Pro Tips
Speak Naturally
Don't overthink it. Ottex is designed to understand natural speech patterns and clean up filler words automatically.
Use Pauses
Brief pauses help Ottex understand sentence boundaries. This leads to better punctuation and formatting.
Correct as You Go
Use "actually" or "scratch that" immediately after mistakes rather than restarting entirely.
Build Your Dictionary
Add names and terms you use frequently. This dramatically improves recognition accuracy.
